The Artist Is Present can be experienced sat down with headphones. During the experience please consider how long you would sit with the artist and what you would aim to gain from the experience.
When performed live, The Artist Is Present would be experienced on a 2m x 2.6m hung projection screen accompanied with a handheld audio guide, in front of which an artist is sat facing an empty chair available for audience members.
This section of my practice responds to the evolution of Marina's works through a focus on The Artist Is Present (2010). This piece of durational performance still resonates with the subversion of a traditional audience role. However, when presented in conjunction with my other reperformances it is evident her work has regained a sense of control over her audiences which draws into question the ideas of iconism and an aura of importance created around Abramović's works.
